The short version
Chiton is a local-first utility app. Every clothing entry, photo, and fitting-room session you log is stored exclusively on your device. Chiton has no user accounts, no login, and no server that stores or has access to your wardrobe data.
Chiton uses two third-party services to operate the free version of the app and to offer an optional ad-free subscription: Google AdMob for advertising, and RevenueCat for subscription management. Details on what each of these processes are below.
Data stored on your device
Chiton stores the following directly on your iPhone, and nowhere else:
- Session records (store name, date, and cover photo)
- Photographs you take of garments and price tags
- Item details you log — name, category, size, price, and status (Tried On, Wishlist, Purchased, Rejected)
None of this data is transmitted to Chiton, uploaded to a cloud service, or shared with any third party. It is not backed up by Chiton in any form. If you use iCloud device backups, Apple may include this data in your personal backup under your own Apple Account — Chiton has no visibility into or control over that process.
Advertising — Google AdMob
Chiton uses Google AdMob to display advertising in the free version of the app. AdMob may process the following on our behalf:
- A temporary advertising identifier (IDFA) or a device-level ad identifier, where permitted
- Coarse app interaction and usage metrics used strictly to select, deliver, and measure ads
This information is processed by Google, not by Chiton, and is never combined with the clothing data or photographs stored on your device. Where Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework applies, Chiton will request your permission before any cross-app or cross-site tracking occurs. You can review or withdraw this permission at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
You can remove ads entirely by purchasing the ad-free subscription described below. For details on how Google handles data collected through AdMob, see Google's AdMob data policy.
Subscriptions — RevenueCat
If you purchase the ad-free subscription, the transaction is handled by Apple's In-App Purchase system and validated using RevenueCat, a subscription-management service. RevenueCat processes:
- An anonymous app-generated user ID (not your name, email, or Apple ID)
- Purchase and subscription status data (product purchased, renewal date, entitlement status)
RevenueCat does not have access to your clothing data, photos, or sessions — that information never leaves your device. For more information, see RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Deleting your data
You are always in control of the data on your device:
- Long-press any session in Chiton to delete it — every photo, logged item, and price is removed immediately and completely.
- Deleting the Chiton app from your device removes all remaining local data.
- To stop AdMob's use of an advertising identifier, disable tracking permissions in iOS Settings, or purchase the ad-free subscription.
- To manage or cancel your subscription, use your Apple Account subscription settings — Chiton does not separately store your payment information.
Children's privacy
Chiton is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Because Chiton requires no account and stores data locally, no personal data is knowingly collected from any user, child or otherwise, beyond the limited advertising and subscription processing described above.
Your rights
Because Chiton itself does not collect, store, or have server-side access to your personal data, most data-access and deletion rights (for example, under GDPR or CCPA) are exercised directly on your device, as described above. For data processed by Google AdMob or RevenueCat on our behalf, you may contact those providers directly, or reach out to us using the contact details below and we will assist where possible.
Changes to this policy
If Chiton's data practices change — for example, if a future update introduces a new third-party service — this page will be updated, and the "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the change. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
